Desert Sands Pottery 1950-70 's Brown Green Spindle Glossy Swirl Vase

$35.00
Desert Sands Pottery started in 1950 and continued until 1975. Early Desert Sands pieces were produced in Nevada while the later pieces were made in California. Early pieces of Desert Sands are very similar to Niloak, with only the interior glazed to make them functional. However, Desert Sands often used green, bright yellow, and bright orange, colors not in the Niloak palette. Later pieces received a bright glossy glaze on the exterior, causing the dull clay colors to become brilliant. Collectors for years had turned up their noses at Desert Sands Pottery, assuming it was simply a poor imitator to Niloak. They were not considered as art pottery, but rather as souvenirs or trinkets. But today collectors are beginning to appreciate these pieces which are becoming increasingly difficult to find.

This 5 inch tall Sands vase has a beautiful swirl with a clear glossy glaze on the outside. This vase is a wonderful example of an arts and crafts style. This piece has a wonderful spindle shape and a great collection of complimenting colors of blue, white and brown.

Exceptional vase in that it is undamaged, no chips, no cracks, no scratches to glaze, no repairs and little to no crazing. Any non-perfections are from the firing/manufacturing process. The white spots are studio light reflections.

Authentic Desert Sands Pottery. All images are original and un-edited.
