Weller Pottery 1920-25 Besline Large Bowl
The Weller Pottery produced Besline from 1920-25. This is one of John Lessell's signature line that he designed for Weller. The lustered orange glaze is very similar to that of the Lustre line but it is decorated with flowers, berries or leaves in white. Many of the Besline examples are prone to having wear to the orange overglaze with bright white showing through (there is a little bit of this issue on the underside of the bowl). Finding an example of Besline in perfect condition can be difficult, and the prices for which can be very competitive.
This is a marvelous example of the Besline. This bowl is decorated in Virginia creepers with flowers, vines and berries. There are no issues to the interior of the bowl and the decoration is perfect. This bowl is such a breathtaking piece. Displays exceptionally well from all angles.
Exceptional bowl in that it is undamaged, no chips, no cracks, very minor scratches to the underside glaze. FREE FROM CRAZING. Any non-perfections are from the firing/manufacturing process. I cannot detect and repairs or restoration on this piece. The white spots are studio light reflections.
