Weller Pottery 1914-20 Lion Roma Low Square Planter
Weller pottery was opened in 1872 by Sam Weller in Fultonham, Ohio. They often used one shape for several lines. The company manufactured hand-decorated pottery in its early years and often were artist signed. Weller produced numerous lines of pottery between 1895 and 1945. The company permanently closed in 1948. The Roma line was introduced in 1914 and produced until 1920's. This line has many interesting forms and designs. Some of the pieces are signed and some are not but all have a similar look.
Here we have a good example of a square planter with a Roman theme of grapes, lions and drapery. Perfect blend of colors with a great unique design. Great piece to use everyday for any household plant. Wonderful to display and perfect for your collection.
Wonderful planter in that it is no cracks, no scratches to glaze. There is crazing on this wonderful piece. I cannot detect any modifications to this planter. This piece has been previously used. Any non-perfections are from the firing/manufacturing process including glaze misses and glaze pops.
