Sascha Brastoff Mid Century Modern Maroon Brown Pear and Apple Trinket Box
Sascha Brastoff made decorative accessories, ceramics, enamels on copper, and plastics of his own design. He headed a factory, Sascha Brastoff of California, Inc., in West Los Angeles, from 1953 until about 1973. He died in 1993. Pieces signed with the signature Sascha Brastoff were his work and are the most expensive. Other pieces marked Sascha B. or with a stamped mark were made by others in his company. Brastoff made hand-painted vases, bowls, ashtrays, and figurines with his trademark overglaze gold trim and flamboyant decorations.
Here we have an wonderful example of a Sascha Brastoff BrownPear and Apple Lidded Box that is 6 1/4 inches square. Typical of his style, you see the dots used as accents and most of the decoration is outlined in black. This is a unique piece and hard to come by, perfect to use on any table to hide away your keys. This piece definitely has that mid century modern feel.
Wonderful trinket box in that it has no cracks, no scratches and no repairs. Minor crazing. Very small 1/4 inch corner chip. Any non-perfections are from the firing/manufacturing process. The white spots are studio light reflections.
All pictures are original and un-edited. Authentic and marked with Sascha B.
