Rookwood Pottery 1925 Mat Blue Green Floral Vellum Vase #2880 Artist Signed Abel
Stunning Rookwood Pottery Vellum Glaze Vase, 1925 by Louise Abel.
Louise Abel was born in Widdern Wurttemburg, Germany in 1894. She arrived with her parents in the United States in 1909 and studied at a large number of institutions. She began her career as a decorator at Rookwood Pottery in 1919 at the age of 25. She produced a great volume of work from 1919 until 1932. She is most famous for her unique sculpted animal and figural work, designing many of the forms Rookwood used during her tenure. She was also an accomplished artist, doing beautiful slip painted pieces. In 1959 she returned to Germany where she continued to produce artwork and sculptures.
Here we have a mat glaze vase with blue flowers against a green ground is the work of Louise Abel from 1925. This is a beautiful piece with an interesting combination of glaze colors. Marks include the Rookwood logo, date, shape 2880 and Ms. Abel's monogram in brown slip. Uncrazed but having very minor peppering at the shoulder and rim.
This is a quality vase without even a hint of crazing. Excellent original condition in that there are no chips, no cracks, and no restoration. Any non-perfections are from the firing/manufacturing process.
Authentic and signed appropriately with the Rookwood symbol and shape number. All images are original and un-edited. Artist signed.
