Owens Pottery 1902 Matt Utopian Art Nouveau Girl Vase #1114
J.B. Owens started his own pottery company in 1891. He built a new plant and started manufacturing pottery in 1896. Owens manufactured pottery for only 10 years and won critical acclaim but closed in 1907. While the Utopian line is their most recognizable, which is a high- gloss brown, here we have the rarer line of Matt Utopian.
This 6 1/8 inch tall Matt Utopian vase is an excellent example of this line. The slip-painting of an art nouveau lady with flowing hair is exceptionally well executed. Beautiful soft matt finish that really shows her portrait off.
Exceptional vase in that it has no chips, no crazing, no repairs,no cracks, no scratches to glaze. Any non-perfections are from the firing/manufacturing process including glaze misses and glaze pops.
Authentic Owens Pottery. All pictures are original and un-edited.
