Muncie Pottery 1929 Matt White over Blue Pitcher #176-8
Muncie Pottery started production of art pottery in 1919 as the Muncie Clay Products Company. Muncie Pottery started as a subsidiary of the German-American Clay Company. Muncie Pottery like so many of the other American art pottery companies closed its doors as a victim of the depression in 1939.
Here we have a marvelous example of a 7 1/2 inch tall Muncie pitcher. The matt white over blue glaze highlights the shape and handle of the Roman-style vessel. A substantial, heavy pitcher that reminds me of a vessel that you would see in the Roman era. You better use two hands when you use this pitcher! Really a unique piece that anyone would be proud to call their own.
Exceptional pitcher in that it is undamaged, no chips, no cracks, no scratches to glaze, no repairs and free from crazing. Any non-perfections are from the firing/manufacturing process. The white spots are studio light reflections.
Authentic Muncie Pottery. All pictures are original and un-edited.
