Harris Strong Early 1950s MCM Harlequin P-15 Jester P-16 Terracotta Tiles Plaques
Harris G. Strong was born July 6, 1920, in Waukesha, Wisconsin. After being discharged, he graduated from North Carolina State University with a degree in chemical engineering. Later he studied ceramic art at New York University. He produced pottery between 1950 to 1970. He passed away in 2006. He is widely known for his Mid Century Modern flare.
Here we have a wonderful example of a MCM (Mid Century Modern) tile set. These tiles are rare and early slab tile panels designed by Marvin Albert. The masked Harlequin in marked P-15 and the Jester is marked P-16 both on the back. The retail price on the Harlequin was $625 and the Jester was $525. These are ready to display on your wall. A very interesting take on a Jester and Harlequin. A great terracotta tile in high relief. These are pictured in a catalog for the Manhattan Triple Pier Show from 1995.
Wonderful tiles in that they are undamaged, no chips, no cracks, no scratches to glaze, no repairs, no restoration. Very minor crazing. Any non-perfections are from the firing/manufacturing process including glaze misses and glaze pops.
Authentic Harris Strong pottery. All images are original and un-edited.
