Peters and Reed/Weller Standard Ware Glaze Flower Bouquet Vase
The standard glaze is probably the most recognizable of the Peters & Reed glazes. The pieces were made in the late 1800's and early 1900's. with many having a Victorian ear elaborate design. This line was finished in the same brown glossy glaze that most potters used at that time. Their standard ware had garlands, wreaths, leaves, sprigs and faces. The body of the ware is red clay. None are marked. The bottom is totally glazed. Some of the designs are in the mold and then hand painted while others are just applied.
Wonderful example of a Peters & Reed standard ware vase. This has a marvelous flower bouquet on both sides of the vase which is very pretty and well defined. The pastel colors form the flower bouquet on each side. The glaze on this one is unusual and unique as it is lighter than most standard ware pieces that I have seen. Displays well from all angles. Perfect for any shelf.
Exceptional vase in that it is undamaged, no chips, no cracks, no scratches to glaze. Very very minor underglaze crazing on this wonderful vase. It may appear more pronounced due to the macro lens used for the photography. Any non-perfections are from the firing/manufacturing process. This item was inspected with a Mil-spec UVA (365NM) and UVC (254NM) high intensity ultra-violet light and no evidence of repair or modification was detected. The white spots are studio light reflections. Dimensions are below.
