Muncie Pottery Vase Green Drip Over Pumpkin Katydid (Shape 194-6) 2A, 1930's
Muncie Pottery started production of art pottery in 1919 as the Muncie Clay Products Company. Muncie Pottery started as a subsidiary of the German-American Clay Company. Muncie Pottery like so many of the other American art pottery companies closed its doors as a victim of the depression in 1939.
This katydid vase was designed by well known Reuben Haley who also designed the ruba rombic line. The katydid design was originally used by consolidated glass but Haley took it with him to Muncie pottery. The muted green drip over pumpkin is a highly collectible glaze and easily recognizable. This is a very well-known glaze and vase shape. Always sought after and highly collectible. Now is your chance to own your own. This is a perfect example of this vase in this glaze. Sure to please any collector. This is signed 2A which is the decorator mark. In my opinion, this would make a wonderful addition to any Muncie Pottery collection or any pottery collection. Displays well from all angles.
Exceptional vase in that it is undamaged, no chips, no cracks, no scratches to glaze. FREE from crazing. Any non-perfections are from the firing/manufacturing process. This item was inspected with a Mil-spec UVA (365NM) and UVC (254NM) high intensity ultra-violet light and no evidence of repair or modification was detected. The white spots are studio light reflections. Dimensions are below.
