Grueby Faience Pottery 1900's Organic Form Green Bowl Artist Signed ER #428
The Grueby Faience Company, founded in 1894, was an American ceramics company that produced distinctive vases and tiles during America's Arts and Crafts Movement.During its first years, Grueby produced glazed architectural terra cotta and faience tiles. Beginning in 1897/98, and focusing primarily on art pottery vases, Grueby introduced matte glazes, including the matte cucumber green that became the company's hallmark.
Here we have an outstanding Grueby Faience Cucumber Green Bowl in a wonderful organic form. This bowl has great rich green color. Cute design of upturned leaves surrounding the body. Displays well from all angles. This is artist signed on the bottom ER - Ruth Erickson.
Outstanding bowl in that it has no chips, no cracks, no scratches to glaze. I cannot detect any crazing. There has been a professional repair to 3 small chips on the rim, and a glaze burst on the bottom which are undetectable. Any non-perfections are from the firing/manufacturing process. The white spots are studio light reflections. Dimensions are below.
