1885 Rookwood Butterfly Blue Limoge Porridge Bowl #87 unsigned

Rookwood records indicate that only 229 were ever produced and very few have survived. The Limoge line is done on red or ginger colored clay. The Limoge line exhibits a strong Japanese influence with exotic decorations that includes bats, owls, dragons, Asian grasses etc. This bowl still has the gold gilting and can be seen in the photograph. Perfect display plate for your mantel or wall. Exceptional detail to the grass and sparrow wings. What talent!

This porridge saucer bowl is believed to have been painted by a junior artist as it is not signed. Although this is not from a famed Rookwood artist, you can tell that this person was very talented. This bowl in remarkable condition as it is over 100 years old. This has a beautiful design that is hand painted or slip painted consisting of a butterfly flying toward tall grass among wispy clouds on a blue background. Beautiful saucer that is ready to display!

Exceptional condition. Normal underglaze crazing. Correct markings for this Rookwood piece. Any non-perfections are from the firing/manufacturing process. This porridge saucer bowl is marked G for ginger clay and 87 for the shape number. Dimensions are below.
